Man’s hand cut off for asking for wages

GARHWA: In an instance of extraordinary brutality, a labourer's hand was chopped off by his employers infuriated over his seeking pending wages.

Lalman Yadav and his brother Uday Yadav, who run an illicit liquor business in Sikhnadi village in Jharkhand's Garhwa district, had hired Aliyar Rajwar (40) for supplying water to their production unit.

Rajwar was hired by the Yadav brothers at Rs 100 per day. His monthly entitlement was Rs 3000.

When he did not get his dues for three straight months, he approached the brothers for payment.

But instead of giving Rajwar the Rs 9,000 they owed him, they first beat him up and then cut-off his hand with an axe.

The attack on Rajwar took place late on Sunday and the Yadav brothers are absconding since then, while their accomplice, a man called Ramchandra, has been arrested.

Garhwa SP Michael Raj admitted that the incident was serious.

"An FIR has been lodged with the concerned police station in this regard," said SP Raj, adding that the police were conducting raids to arrest the accused.

Rajwar fell unconscious after the assault and when he regained his senses, he found himself in Garhwa Sadar Hospital from where he was shifted to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi for specialised treatment.
Main accused yet to be nabbed

Police have so far failed to arrest the main accused - Lalman Yadav and Uday Yadav (both brothers) -- involved in chopping off the hand of a daily wage earner, Aliyar Rajwar (40), at Sikhnadi village under the Majhiaon police station area of Garhwa district on Monday.
While admitting that it is a serious incident, Garhwa SP Michael Raj S said: "An FIR has been lodged with the police station concerned in this regard." He added that raids were on at various places to arrest Lalman and Uday. Rajwar was hired by the two brothers for supplying water to their liquor production unit. He was promised Rs 100 per day for his work but had not been paid for the last three months.

When Rajwar went to ask for his dues from Uday and his associate, Ramchandra Rajwar, the duo thrashed him severely, chopped off his left hand with an axe and fled. The labourer immediately fell unconscious but when he regained his senses he found himself at the Garhwa Sadar Hospital from where he was shifted to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi for specialized treatment. While police arrested Ramchandra, both Lalman and Uday are absconding.
